The external internships give you a real insight into the working environment of legal practice in professional offices, public administration and companies.

Type of internships

CURRICULAR INTERNSHIPS

6 credits (optional)

  • A first-semester subject in the 4th year
  • Not compatible with the mobility programme
  • Requirements: Having passed all the 2nd year subjects and being able to enrol in all the compulsory subjects in 4th year. Students should have completed the legal workshops and experiences.

CURRICULAR INTERNSHIPS

30 credits

  • The entire first semester in the 4th year at an internship centre
  • Requirements: at least a 7.5 grade point average. Students should have completed the legal workshops and experiences.

Bridge Program internships

An academic excellence programme that facilitates an immersion experience in an international firm for two weeks (one in Spain and one abroad).

Solidarity curricular internships

This programme facilitates national and international curricular internships in organisations that work for social justice and solidarity, within the framework of the University's commitment to human and values education. 

EXTRACURRICULAR INTERNSHIPS

  • Information and prior authorisation by the Faculty
  • They should not coincide with the curricular internship period
  • They should not exceed 300 hours
  • Host institution with which there is a curricular internship agreement in force
  • It should not interfere with the obligation to attend classes

Internships

To do an intership, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Having completed the workshops to improve employability offered by the Careers Guidance Service 
  • Participating in legal experiences: attending trials, service-learning in social entities and NGOs, visits to companies and institutions.
  • 6-credit internship: during the first semester of your 4th year, or brought forward to the previous summer (June, July and August)
  • 30-credit internship: during the first semester of your 4th year

You will have two tutors: one from the host organisation and one from the Law School. These tutors will monitor the individual progress of your internship. They will also assess whether you acquire the specified generic and specific competences through reports.

  • Private offices: offices, companies, consultancies…
  • Public offices:  local councils, Provincial Councils, Basque Government, Basque Parliament, Courts and Tribunals…

Frequently asked questions

6-Credit internships: having passed all the 2nd year subjects and being able to enrol in all the compulsory subjects in 4th year.
30-credit internships: you must have obtained a mark of 7.5 or higher on your academic transcript.
In addition, for both internships, Comprehensive Practical Training workshops (and Advanced Comprehensive Practical Training in the case of 30-credit internships) run by the Careers Guidance Service (SOP) and legal reality experiences held by the School.

No. It is therefore recommended to carry out the internship in the advanced mode.

Yes. In this case, you must provide all the necessary information and receive prior authorisation from the School to be able to carry out the internship.

Mobility is not compatible with curricular internships.

If you are studying Law with a specialisation, you should contact the Faculty corresponding to your specialisation to determine this issue.

Two periods:

  • In advance, during the months of June, July and August.
  • In the first semester as long as the academic obligation to attend classes is fulfilled.

In this case, it is up to students to find their own internship centre. The following requirements must be met:

  • Information and prior authorisation by the School.
  • A centre with which there is a curricular internship agreement in force and which hosts at least one curricular internship of the Bachelor's Degree in Law in the same academic year.
  • It should not interfere with the obligation to attend classes.
  • They should not exceed 300 hours.
  • The extracurricular internship period must not coincide with the curricular internships period, except for justified academic exceptions.

If you are a student of Basque, your internship can be monitored in Basque.
