In collaboration with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OACNUDH)

Since 2000, this training programme has been the result of a collaboration between the OHCHR (Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights) and the Pedro Arrupe Institute for Human Rights at the University of Deusto.

More than 170 people from various communities and nationalities.

Over more than two decades, it has trained more than 170 people from various indigenous peoples and nationalities in Latin America, with the aim of strengthening indigenous organisations and communities in the defence of their rights.

A comprehensive programme

The programme covers boththeoreticalandpractical aspects, providing a solid foundation inhuman rights, political science, and social sciences, with a specific focus on the functioning of international mechanisms for the protection of indigenous peoples' rights. This approach aims to prepare indigenous representatives to take an active role in defending human rights and engaging in political advocacy.

Enhancing leadership and networks

The programme promotes the development of strong leadership and encourages the creation of networks and alliances between participants and other human rights organisations. This approach facilitates collaboration and knowledge sharing, strengthening the capacities of indigenous communities and organisations and promoting their advocacy in public policy and the struggle for their rights.

eLankidetza Grants (Basque Government)

Each year, 10 full scholarships are awarded to selected individuals, ensuring their access to training, empowering them to advocate, advocate and protect the human rights of their communities, both locally and internationally.

Upon completion of the programme, participants will have gained a thorough understanding of the main international human rights instruments and mechanisms. The programme focuses particularly on those relevant to indigenous peoples and highlights the role of the United Nations system. Participants should be able to provide training in their communities and organisations, and to advocate effectively for their rights at local, national and international levels.
