The Institute of Cooperative Studies of Deusto (IEC) and the International Association of Cooperative Law (AIDC), in collaboration with the Basque Academy of Law (AVD), have held a conference on 'Adapting cooperative societies to the digital world' at the University of Deusto, between the 20th and 21st of November.

The event brought together experts in Labor Law and Cooperative Law from Deusto and other universities, as well as the CEO of Innobasque, Leire Bilbao, the head of Digital Transformation in the Energy, Climate and Urban Transition Unit of the Tecnalia Foundation, José Antonio Chica Páez, and the CEO of the Cooperative Group Servicios Sociales Integrados, Karmele Acedo.

In its two-day session, the congress addressed the adaptation of the organic system of cooperative laws to the digital world, as capitalist societies have done, and specifically, the functioning of the general assembly and the governing council of cooperative societies in digital environments. The challenges and opportunities posed by this transition have also been studied, analyzing aspects of the functioning of cooperative societies operating in the digital environment: remote working as a measure for promoting work-life balance and family co-responsibility, the challenge of artificial intelligence, or the environment of digital platforms, among others.
