The University of Deusto, the “la Caixa” Foundation and CaixaBank have renewed their strong collaboration in initiatives related to care for students with financial difficulties and projects for groups at risk of inclusion. This alliance, now in its tenth year, also includes support for volunteering and adult education, with a clear commitment to the inclusion of the health sector.
In fact, this training for senior citizens, which is carried out through the DeustoBide School of Citizenship, this year has more students than ever before. Specifically, 1,100 students are participating in the courses offered at the Bilbao campus and in the municipalities of Bizkaia (Basauri, Galdakao and Getxo) and Gipuzkoa (Azpeitia). These are students with different profiles and ages, in line with the demographic change where the adult age is prolonged and public bodies with different demands emerge. Within the framework of this agreement, Deusto and La Caixa Foundation are committed to research and attention to this group, promoting lifelong learning and all the benefits it promotes on a personal and social level.
The rector of the University of Deusto, Juan José Etxeberria, and the northern territorial director of CaixaBank, Juan Pedro Badiola, signed the agreement, which also includes support for the activities of the Chair of Leisure and Inclusion, serving groups at risk of vulnerability. In addition, the actions related to the support to volunteering carried out by the University of Deusto are reinforced: training courses, the volunteering fair with the presence of more than 60 associations, field presences... Likewise, the participation of the Pedro Arrupe scholarships in “la Caixa” for students with economic difficulties.
