On Tuesday, November 12, the students of the Disfrutar las Artes program of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences attended a talk with renowned translator Lydia Vázquez. This conference was held as part of a series of seminars organized by the program, which seek to bring students closer to the work of contemporary creators from various artistic disciplines.
On this occasion, the speaker was Lydia Vázquez, professor of French Philology at the University of the Basque Country, specializing in 18th century French literature compared to other arts and literary translation. Focused on the translation of works in French into Spanish, she has been responsible for the translations of French writer Annie Ernaux, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2022, among others. In fact, weeks before this meeting, on Tuesday, October 29, Lydia was named Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres of the French Republic at a ceremony at the headquarters of the French Institute in Bilbao, for her contribution to intercultural dialogue, bringing the culture of France closer to the Spanish readership.
The colloquium was organized in cooperation with the “la Caixa” Foundation and moderated by Bego R. Orbezua, professor of the program's literature module.
