Mission

Deusto Psych, a Unit for Research, Development and Innovation in Psychology and Health, aims to be an international benchmark in research and knowledge transfer in the field of Psychology and Health.

Vision

To advance knowledge through research, development and innovation in the field of Psychology and Health to contribute to the improvement of professional practices. The aim is to serve society in its area of knowledge and competence, within the framework of the values of the University of Deusto and the field of Psychology.

Practical healthcare training

1. Offer quality internships in the field of general health psychology and the various specialist fields.
2. Provide support to students doing their doctoral theses and Master's final projects in the field of health psychology through research teams.
3. Contribute to the ongoing training of future and current professionals in the field of psychology and health, promoting the transfer of knowledge generated by research teams.
4. Contribute to the improvement and updating of the academic staff in the field of Psychology and Health through the support of different training actions.

Research excellence in health

1. Promote and enhance support for research, development and innovation in the field of Psychology and Health.
2. Boost research on innovation in psychological intervention.
3. Support research to respond to the needs of today's society.
4. Increase the dissemination of the scientific output and knowledge transfer from research teams.

Comprehensive psychological support

1. Provide and increase quality psychological support services to the university community, based on a wide range of therapeutic approaches.
2. Provide and increase quality psychological support services to society at large and especially to vulnerable groups, based on a wide range of therapeutic approaches.
3. Increase the variety of workshops and group interventions that contribute to improving the well-being, mental health and personal development of the university community and society at large.
4. Encourage the development of evidence-based interventions.

As a University Research Unit, DeustoPsych’s particular focus in on teaching. For this reason, all of our rooms have adjacent observation areas for students in training.

The Unit has:

• Two consultation rooms
• Three interview rooms with adjacent observation areas
• A children’s intervention room with an adjacent observation area
• Experimentation Room for neuropsychophysiology (Faraday Cage)
• Virtual reality and motricity room
• Multi purpose room for group intervention with an adjacent observation area
• Meeting rooms
• Two clinical staff rooms with 18 workstations
• Reception, waiting room, files and control unit

All spaces are equipped with audio and video recording systems.

As for research resources, DeustoPsych has a remarkable range of equipment including:
 

• 2-channel biofeedback 2000 and 4-channel WaveRider pro biofeedback systems
• Four polygraph machines (two BioPac MP-150, one BioPac Student Lab and one Grass Model 7D)
• Non-invasive blood pressure recording systems and a sphygmomanometer
• Sleep motion monitoring system (Actigraph)
• Ethylometer
• Two EEG machines (36 channel Medicid-5 and 32 channel System Brainvision)
• Cognitive change assessment systems (Cantab)
• Motion Star Wirelees System with 1 NVIS NVISOR SX helmet and Flock of Birds System with 2 Cybermind SVGA helmets
• Wii
• Interaction coding and monitoring system (Noldus Observer XT 8.0);
• Other research software and materials: Experiment design and analysis (E-Prime); Stimulus presentation system (SuperLab); Statistical analysis software (SPSS, LISREL, EQS, STATA, Gpower, ?); Datascan for data processing
• Evaluation instruments bank with over 120 tests and questionnaires, all of which are duly licensed.
• Intervention toolkit including rehabilitation programmes, intervention programmes, 27 relaxation mats, children’s games and materials.
