    Goals

DeustoMED's research approach embraces a systemic and holistic understanding of human health, rooted in the belief that optimal health is not achieved solely through treating diseases at the individual level but also by preserving and enhancing the health of the global systems and ecosystems that support human life. This perspective argues that any progress in personal health made at the expense of environmental health is ultimately counterproductive.

DeustoMED conducts research projects that span: (1) basic research, in collaboration with DeustoBIO and CIC bioGUNE; (2) applied research, alongside the Faculty of Engineering, Health Research Institutes, and health services, both public and private; and (3) pedagogical innovation focused on research, assessment, creation, and transfer of innovative educational strategies and tools.

DeustoMED's ambition is to carry out medical research that leads the transition toward an efficient, humanistic, sustainable, and climate-minimally impacting medicine. Its "Person-Centered and Sustainable Medical Research" line is cross-applied to four study areas: (1) personalized medicine, (2) value-based medicine, (3) digital health, and (4) health sciences education. The overarching mission of DeustoMED's research is to spearhead the shift toward medical practice that is efficient, humanistic, sustainable, and environmentally respectful.
