Susana García-Gutierrez graduated from University of Basque Country medical school in 1998 (MD). Between 1999 and 2002 she completed Family Medicine residency in Galdakao hospital. After that, she worked as emergency Physician of this Centre until 2004, when she started to work in the Research Unit after achieved a Rio Hortega grant from the Carlos III institute to develop a post-residency research training period. She moved to Boston in 2006 to obtain a master degree in Clinical Efectiveness (MSc) from Harvard School of Public Health. After that, he achieved her PhD from Basque University in 2009 and since that date she works as clinical epidemiologist in Galdakao Hospital Research Unit. She has published more than 100 papers and participating in several research projects, some of them as principal investigator . Her main lines of research are predictive modeling and clinical prediction rules in acute and decompesations of chronic conditions. She was awarded the 2017 Barea prize by the Signo Foundation, obtaining an accesit in the category of innovation and new technologies for her contribution: Platform for clinical decision support in hospital emergencies. She is currently head of the Kronikgune I research group in RICAPPS, Research Network on Chronicity, Primary Care and Health Promotion (RD21CIII/0003/0017).
