The University of Deusto’s Engineering Faculty offers a new University-Business technology seminar thanks to the collaboration of LKS Next, a leading technology company in digital transformation and data management. Both institutions have signed an agreement to create this workspace in which business professionals and students will work on the joint resolution of current projects and technological challenges in today’s society. The aim is to drive young talent towards the new challenges set by the latest technological trends.
Specifically, this initiative focuses on the development of new proposals in the field of Computer Engineering and Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. The agreement, signed by the Head of People Development at LKS NEXT Group, José Ignacio Lacal, and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Asier Perallos, also includes the promotion of teacher training activities, the development of informative and educational content, and other university outreach activities, as well as technical talks, seminars, professional meetings, and other events at Deusto's facilities.
Digitalisation and data, while already a reality today, will increasingly impact our daily lives in the coming years. Therefore, as José Ignacio Lacal said, for LKS, an organisation focused on providing real and tangible value to its customers, and on continuing to grow as an organisation and expanding our capabilities through our people, "being able to collaborate with the University of Deusto through these technological seminars allows us to strengthen our commitment to talent and the Basque business fabric". He also pointed out "it is also a way of helping students to apply their knowledge through innovative challenges that will allow them to expand a professional profile that is most-in demand in the labour market".
For Asier Perallos, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Data Science and Technology, as well as everything related to Computer Engineering, pose important challenges for the University, given that the expectations that companies, industries and organisations in general are placing on these subjects seem to have no limits. A true revolution in which "we understand that, in order to lead the university proposal in such a fast-moving scenario, it is essential to work in collaboration with business actors, not only with the knowledge within your organisation, but also incorporating the experience of professionals who work in the continuous application of technical (and also scientific) paradigms to the challenges of the productive fabric". In this regard, he pointed out that" thanks to this kind of collaboration with LKS, we enjoy a very differential value for our students in the classroom, which is provided by the business success stories".
As Vicente Briz, Area Director of LKS Next explained, "LKS is focused on providing support to our customers in their digital transformation processes with Cloud and Data technologies, improving their competitiveness and materialising our social commitment to generate wealth in Biscay and the Basque Country". Moreover, Iván Álvarez, Director of Technological Innovation noted that "LKS has a clear commitment to innovation, which is a distinctive element of our value proposition. This University-Business technology seminars will help to reinforce our innovative activity in the Basque market, generate exciting projects and attract talent".
The launch of this university-business seminars coincides with the deployment that the University of Deusto is making in terms of Digital Transformation, with new undergraduate degrees such as the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence degree (Bilbao and San Sebastian), with the option of combining it with Computer Engineering (one of the most recognised degrees of the Jesuit institution, in which Deusto was a pioneer in Spain), and the new bachelor’s degrees in Robotics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and the master’s in Computing and Intelligent Systems in Bilbao.
