Josu Solabarrieta Eizaguirre has been elected director of the Basque Institute for Non-university Educational Evaluation and Research. This unit, which depends on the Department of Education of the Basque Government, has the objective of designing and developing the evaluation projects of the educational system of the Basque Autonomous Community, quality indicators and evaluation instruments, as well as promoting lines of research and studies that favor the quality and improvement of education, among others.
The new responsible for education has a PhD in Education Sciences. He began his professional career at the University of Deusto, at the Institute of Education Sciences (ICE). During his years of association with the ICE, he participated in numerous research, innovation and training projects, being its director between 2000 and 2003.
At the same time, he developed his teaching activity in the Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Sciences, which he joined fully in 2003. He was Vice Dean of Innovation and Quality of the same; subsequently, Vice Dean of Education of the new Faculty of Psychology and Education, and Dean of this faculty from 2010 until 2021, when this center disappeared to make way for two new faculties: Health Sciences and Education and Sports.
He has a long and intense trajectory in teaching, research and transfer in topics related to educational evaluation, research methods, innovation and competency-based training, as well as the use of information and communication technologies in education.
