Felipe Gómez Isa and Emilio Armaza, professors at the Faculty of Law of the University of Deusto, have been awarded the UNIC HEI Award 2024 for their course “Genocide and Mass Atrocities under International Law”. This recognition, awarded for the first time in the history of the UNIC alliance, highlights the value of teaching innovation and international collaboration in the field of superdiversity and inclusion.

The Jury noted that the course, developed in collaboration with Maja Munivrana and Rutvica Rusan Novokmet, professors at the University of Zagreb, “exemplifies collaboration within the UNIC Alliance and actively involves a large number of UNIC students”.

The UNIC HEI Award aims to recognize best teaching and research practices in superdiversity and inclusion, reinforcing these values in the universities that are part of the alliance. Through this initiative, digital badges are awarded to courses and studies that demonstrate excellence in these areas, promoting teaching, research and dissemination of inclusion in higher education.

The award-winning course, which analyzes from a legal and interdisciplinary approach the phenomenon of genocide and mass atrocities, stands out for its academic and social impact, as well as its ability to engage students from different countries and contexts. This achievement represents a milestone in the collaboration between European academic institutions and reinforces the University of Deusto's commitment to educational excellence and the promotion of inclusive values.

The UNIC HEI Award encourages partner universities of the UNIC alliance to apply for courses that promote superdiversity and inclusion, setting standards of educational quality and sharing best practices with the international academic community.
