The University of Deusto dressed up on March 21 to celebrate Tourism Alumni Day, an event commemorating the 60th anniversary of tourism studies, in which alumni, students and teachers gathered in an emotional meeting, under the title “A journey through time, heading to the future”, full of memories, experiences and looks to the future.

After the welcome by Fernando Bayón, Vice Dean of Research and Doctoral Studies of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, and Jesús Riaño, Director of Deusto Alumni, the event became a real time machine to relive the evolution of tourism and education in the sector. From the old classrooms to the latest technological innovations, the tour showed how tourism studies in Deusto have been able to adapt to the demands of a sector in constant transformation.

Through videos and testimonials, the beginnings of tourism education were recalled and the revolution brought about by digitalization was reflected upon: from paper maps to virtual reality glasses and the metaverse, tools that today are redefining the way in which tourism is designed and experienced. Former students will share their experiences and their vision of the past, present and future of the profession.

One of the most special moments of the day was the tribute to the first graduating class of tourism, who received recognition for their key role in the consolidation of these studies and their contribution to the development of the sector.

This event, organized by Deusto Alumni and the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, reaffirms the link between the university and its graduates, consolidating a meeting place for the exchange of experiences and the projection of the new challenges of the sector.
