Before the Fair Saturday Awards held this afternoon at the Guggenheim Museum, one of the winners, Nobel Prize in Economics (2019), Abhijit Banerjee, known for his contributions in the field of development economics, met with students from the different degree courses taught at Deusto Business School.

At the meeting, held in the Faculty of the La Comercial building of the University of Deusto, the prestigious Professor of Economics at MIT-Massachusetts Institute of Technology spoke about his work and challenges in the fight against poverty and progress towards a fairer and more egalitarian world.

In an informal dialogue, which was also attended by the Rector, the Dean of Deusto Business School, and teachers from the same Faculty, the co-founder of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) shared his innovative research to evaluate the impact of programmes aimed at improving the lives of people living in poverty. A pioneering project that has inspired economists, politicians and academics around the world, transforming the way public policies are designed and implemented.

After his visit to Deusto Business School, the Nobel Prize in Economics addressed the presentation of the Fair Saturday Awards, international awards organised by the Fair Saturday Foundation since 2017. These distinctions are awarded to individuals and organisations that have demonstrated a significant social impact through art and culture. They aim to promote models of action that contribute to more inclusive, fair and sustainable growth.
