Deusto Research Social Impact Label

We are committed to promoting a type of research that combines scientific excellence with social transformation

The Deusto Research Social Impact Labelrecognises research projects that demonstrate a potential social impact through:

  • their transformative action and potential social impact for people, entities, the local community or society in general in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, European policy priorities and/or the RIS3 Strategy of the Basque Government (or other relevant policies related to the main theme of the project);
  • their involvement with non-academic actors at different levels,and
  • the project's capacity to go beyond the scientific impact on the area of knowledge, providing evidence of the uptake, use and/or exploitation by external actors; as well as of the dissemination and valuation of the results in the target group.

To date, the University of Deusto has recognised a total of59 social impact research projects.

Societal impact occurs when published and disseminated research results, which have been transferred to the market, lead to an improvement in relation to agreed and prioritised objectives in our societies.

Scientific dissemination

Deusto publicly disseminates the research and innovation carried out at the institution and informs society about the transfer of knowledge derived from the R&D&I projects and outcomes generated.

A number of resources are available to the research staff to maintain and disseminate the research carried out by the university community:

  • Deusto Social Impact Briefings, short monographs aimed at social institutions, users, policy makers and companies that highlight the transformative action of Deusto's research.

    Briefings ensure that the outcomes of Deusto's research can be understood by social actors and can help them to respond to the social transformation challenges they face, offering them good practices, guidelines or recommendations in the work they carry out.
  • Deusto Social Impact Storytellings, videos produced to showcase the value and social impact of research.
  • Deusto publishes articles in a variety of media, thus contributing to the dissemination of research findings through both print and electronic publishing, as one of the strategic objectives of the University of Deusto.

We are part of a collaborative network between different national and international publishing services, public institutions and private publishers.

At the University of Deusto we cannot understand research without knowledge transfer. As Elena Sanz, editor-in-chief of The Conversation, said: It is the science that is told that counts.
