    ABOUT THE PHD PROGRAMME

    The PhD Programme in Economic and Business Law offered by the University of Deusto, Comillas Pontifical University and Ramón Llull University aims to respond to current research demands, which require a broad knowledge of the techniques necessary to produce doctoral theses in the field of business and market law that respond to changing and complex realities.

    The programme is part of the Aristos Campus Mundus 2015initiative, committed to socially responsible and sustainable innovation (Campus of International Excellence in the 2011 call of the Ministry of Education).

    is the result of the strategic partnership of three social initiative universities and is also born with an advanced strategic cooperation agreement withGeorgetown University, Boston College and Fordham University.

    The inter-university team "Economic Law and National and Transnational Business Law" is made up of teams and researchers from the University of Deusto, Ramón Llull University and Comillas Pontifical University.

    ACTIVITY SCHEME

    Supplementary training courses

    Those who do not meet the required research capacity according to the recommended entry profile recognised and detailed in the programme will be required to take research methodology seminars beforehand.

    1. Contents

    General seminar: Preparation manual and guidelines for PhD theses (10 hours, 1 ECTS).

    Two specific seminars (20 hours, 2 ECTS) to be chosen from among the following, at least two of which will be available in person at each centre; regardless of this, each doctoral student, if applicable according to the system for assigning doctoral students to the seminars agreed between the centres, will take them online.

    • Economic Analysis of Law. (ESADE)
    • Research method in private business and company law
    • Research method in public business law
    • Comparative legal research method (ESADE)

    2. Course duration

    • Full time: 1er Semester
    • Part time: 1st and 2nd years

    Those who have successfully completed postgraduate credits of legal methodological content and can demonstrate sufficient training and previous research experience will not be required to take them.

    Training Activities

    The PhD programmes feature a range of both cross-cutting and specific research training activities for each programme. These activities focus on excellence in training new researchers and optimum development of  research competences.

    Research training activities include: courses, meetings, seminars, attendance to congresses, publication of articles and mobility stays.

    The aim is to create a space for intellectual encounters where researchers can develop their training in an appropriate context.

    Furthermore, these activities are programmed to ensure that students gain international experience through:

    • Stays at foreign universities or research centres
    • Completion of international theses and participation in international conferences
    • Talks by visiting lecturersat the activities.

    These activities are held throughout the training period.

    WHY STUDY THIS PHD PROGRAMME?

    The programme focuses on

    Research into economic law, without maintaining the traditional academic distinction that sets public law apart from private law.

    Economic Analysis of Law.

    It provides an understanding of the relationship between economics and law, the law of economics and legal economics, and the methodological structure of legal research on economic and business relations.

    It opens up and promotes

    The possibility of addressing issues and adopting approaches that are not merely economy-based, but rather emphasise the social dimension and implications of the economic and/or business issues under study.
