This is not the first time that the University haswon this Award, regarded as the 'Oscars' of university publications. In fact, the Publications Catalogue was already awarded for being the best of all Spanish universities in 2004 and last year, Deusto won the Award, this time in the 'Best Monograph' category, for the book 'Los Jardines de la Antigüedad'.
Together with the best publications catalogue, these Prizes also award the best monograph, which this year has gone to the University of Salamanca for the book 'Panorama Literario Técnico-científico en Roma (Siglos I-II D.C.). Et docere et delectare' , The prize for best electronic publication was awarded to University of Salamanca Publications for the work 'Pedanio Dioscórides Anazarbeo', the prize for best collection went to the Centre of Political and Constitutional Studies for the 'Clásicos Políticos' collection, the best copublication award with a private publishing house went to UIB Publications, Universitat de les Illes Balears, for the work 'Santiago Ramón y Cajal', and the Best translation award was won by the University of Seville for the work 'La Papisa Juana'.
On this 10th University Publications Awards, the panel of judges included Rogelio Blanco, director-general for Books, Archives and Libraries, Victoriano Colodrón, technical director of CEDRO, and Antonio María Ávila, chief executive of the Association of Spanish Publishers. Isabel Terroba, general secretary of the UNE, acted as secretary to the Panel.The University of Deusto, along with the rest of Universities, have receive this award in 3 October, within the 25th Liber International Fair, in Barcelona.
Publications Catalogue
This University's Publications Catalogue is an annual publication that includes all the works published by Deusto.The different titles are classified by areas of knowledge at this University and divided into Book Series, each of which is assigned a different colour.Maroon corresponds to those publications related to Law and Social Sciences; yellow refers to Economy and Computing; green includes books in the fields of Philosophy, Psychology, Pedagogy, History, the Basque Country, Arts, Linguistics, Archaeology, Theology andHomages; blue encompasses research work on Ethics, Drug Dependencies, Humanitarian Aid and Development, Human Rights, Deusto Theology Notebooks, ICE's Monographic Notebooks, Deusto Notebooks on Human Rights, Deusto Forum publications and Documents on Leisure Studies; and black corresponds to books related to Humanities-Management from the San Sebastian campus. In addition, this Catalogue contains the list of publications carried out by other centres as well as some special editions, other publications and the list of journals.This directory also includesan index arranged by author and title, and the list of microfilmed publications.
This particular way of organising publications clearly shows the main lines of research carried out at Deusto, and they account for the different synergies between teaching and research, as evidenced by those publications related to Human Rights, Ethics or the new European programmes.
The University Publications National Awards werecreated in 1998 in order to promote and enhance university publications and highlighttheir importance and quality before the scientific community and society as a whole. None of these awards has an economic value and the award-winning people or entities receive an official diploma of recognition and a trophy.
