Deusto Technology Foundation is an initiative promoted by the University of Deusto, with the aim of becoming consolidated as a R+D+i (Research, Development and Innovation) Centre of Excellence, and a scientific-technological partner that may help companies to improve their competitiveness.

From the current technological knowledge at UD, and through the promotion and strengthening of its research teams, which are provided with a flexible and dynamic framework, the business sector is offered a specialised and multidisciplinary range of research and technological services.

Its research teams can be placed within the fields of information technologies, microelectronics, advanced signal processing, and they are complemented by a multidisciplinary line involving ICTs and business management.

Deusto Technology Foundation, through the University of Deusto, is member of the Basque Network of Science, Technology and Innovation, and SARETEK.

Deusto Foundation Social Research was created with the aim of revitalising Social Science studies, thus facilitating the University-company relationship. Some of the Services provided by Social Research   include market research and opinion polls, which involve surveys on service quality, consumer behaviour, purchase patterns and consumer habits, or needs surveys. In addition, research is also carried out into customer satisfaction, the working environment or social research to assess social services and social intervention programmes, evaluate and design strategic plans, evaluate public policies or surveys on social groups: disability, gender, immigration…

With regard to the Basque Institute of Competitiveness, it seeks to promote those activities carried out by the public administration, the socioeconomic agents, and all the universities in the Basque Country in the fields related to competitiveness. This is done through research, training, surveys, technical assistance and assessment, promotion of debate and participation in international networks of excellence. Thus, thanks to the strengthening of competitive advantages in the Basque Country, higher rates of socioeconomic growth and quality of life may be achieved for its inhabitants. The Institute’s activity is focused on all those aspects that may have a bearing on competitiveness. Therefore, priority is given to the following areas: Competitiveness and innovation, Clusters, regional development, Strategy, Entrepreneurship and the knowledge society.

This initiative is promoted by the UD and Deusto Foundation, with the initial collaboration of the Basque Government (through the SPRI), Kutxa, Euskaltel, Repsol-Petronor, and the Regional Council of Guipuzkoa.

The Basque Institute of Competitiveness has signed collaboration agreements with the well-known and prestigious Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness at Harvard University. It is headed by professor Michael E. Porter who is, in turn, Honorary Chairman of this new Institute.

The Basque Institute of Competitiveness, official member of the world network of Institutes for Competitiveness of the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness at Harvard University, includes among its activities the course on Corporate Competitiveness and Regional Development (CCEDR), designed by M. E. Porter and his collaborators at the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness.

The Foundation’s action lines

One of the Foundation’s main action lines has been the promotion and strengthening of these University Development Units. Another prime objective is to foster professional and competitive research teams within the University of Deusto, and to collaborate in team training, in those subject areas arousing a great deal of social interest.

The Catalogue of Scientific Research Areas, created by Deusto Foundation, includes 63 specialised research teams in the different spheres of social interest. These make up a wide range of applied research, consultancy, technical assistance and other interventions arising from knowledge generation.

These teams have conducted over 750 research projects so far, and have published 694 books, 269 chapters in books, 1,315 articles in journals, and given 1,337 lectures in Congresses or Scientific Meetings and 1,200 shared courses. All this scientific research work has resulted in the strengthening of the relationships between the University of Deusto and companies and institutions.
