Bilbao Campus
Susana Rodríguez Vidarte, Professor of Strategy at the University of Deusto, has been named Illustrious of Bilbao 2022. Alongside her, the linguist and academic Adolfo Arejita, the philosopher Daniel Innerarity and the ex-football player and ex-coach Iraia Iturregi have also been named. In addition, this year, the Bilbao City Council has named the Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa (BOS) as Ambassador of the City. The orchestra celebrated its centenary in March. In 2001, the Famous People of Bilbao award was created, the aim of which is to recognise people or entities who, through their career, contribute to the dissemination and diffusion of the good name of the town.
In the case of Rodríguez Vidarte, she has been recognised for her long professional career, with special emphasis on leadership and responsibility. And Adolfo Arejita, for his academic, literary and informative work in Basque and in favour of the Basque language. Daniel Innenarity, for his ability to analyse society from a profound point of view, valuing the means and tools that human beings must choose to build a better future for all, and Iraia Iturregi, for her defence of the values and philosophy of Athletic, combining red and white passion, talent and the defence of the empowerment of women in sport.
Finally, the Bilbao City Council has highlighted the BOS in its centenary for carrying the name of Bilbao around the world with great professionalism and quality, demonstrating that music unites people and makes hearts beat to the rhythm of beautiful scores.
These five new names are added to the long list of nominees for the Illustrious of Bilbao. This list now counts 115 awards, including three ambassadors of the city. The award ceremony of the Illustrious of Bilbao 2022 took place on Thursday 15 December at 19:30 in the Arab Hall of the Bilbao City Hall.
