On March 19, the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences paid a small tribute to its “emeritus” student Gloria Díez Valbuena. She has been a student of this faculty in different courses of Continuing Education since 1993 without interruption. As she says: “except for the Covid semester”.
For the entire faculty and, especially, for Leisure Studies, Gloria is an exemplary student: a graduate in Chemical Sciences, she practiced her profession and when the time came for her to “relax a little” in retirement, she decided that “relaxing” was not for her. She chose the first graduating class of what is now the Degree in Culture and Solidarity to continue her training in areas that, perhaps, she had put aside because of her profession. It was time to focus on enrichment and development in the field of Culture and Solidarity, and she chose Deusto for that task.
“Gloria, thank you for choosing us, for still being with us after 32 years, for your desire to know, to share, to be up to date with the world and society. You have taught us with your presence and participation as much as we have taught you,” said Isabel Parrondo, head of Student Services at the Faculty.
She added that: “on behalf of the University of Deusto, of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, of the entire team of professors that form it, of all the people who organize, coordinate and ensure that ‘the machine works’ (thanks to Irene, Joseba, Fernando, Itziar), we wish you a Happy Birthday and may you celebrate many more in this, your faculty, demonstrating day by day that knowledge does not take place, that there is no age to study and that the will is what makes us move forward in our continuing education as human beings. Thank you, Gloria”.
