The awardee, Enrique Zuazua, is honorary member of Jakiunde, the Basque Academy of Sciences, Letters and Humanities and Academia Europaea. He is also part time Professor of Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain. His work, in the area of Applied Mathematics, covering topics related with Partial Differential Equations, Systems Control and Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing, has had an important impact. He has been recognized as a “Highly Cited Researcher" by the ISI Institute (Thomson) and the Spanish Julio Rey Pastor National Prize 2007. With DyCon this Basque mathematician (Eibar, 1961), previously funded by the European Research Council with the Advanced Grant NUMERIWAVES (2010-2015), becomes one of the few European researchers awarded with two consecutive Advanced Grants.

With a total budget of over 2 million Euros and running along the period 2016-2021, DyCon, aims to develop a multi-fold research agenda in the broad area of Control of Partial Differential Equations, and their numerical approximation methods by addressing some key issues that are still badly understood. To this end, it will contribute with new key theoretical methods and results, developing the corresponding numerical tools and computational software. DeustoTech team is enthusiastic about the expectations and potential synergies that this initiative opens up. Universidad Autónoma de Madrid also takes part in the project as Third Party.

DyCon project is the first ERC Advanced Grant hosted by DeustoTech - Deusto Foundation, a research and technology centre DeustoTech, located in Bilbao, Basque Country, in the north of Spain. With a strong focus and expertise in Computational Intelligence and Big Data and its applications to different sectors in Industry, Health, Energy or Transport, launches a new Chair in Computational Mathematics to be the host for DyCon, committed with the development of ground-breaking research in the areas of control systems, optimization and inverse problems; key tools for technological transfer and for the interaction of mathematics with other scientific disciplines such as biology, engineering, earth and climate sciences.

The match of DyCon and DeustoTech in the field of Data Analytics will enhance the bet of the city of Bilbao, the region of Bizkay and the Basque Country to become a world-class reference in Mathematics.

DyCON project will hire a mix of full time PhD students, Postdocs, computational engineers and international visitors from all over the globe, turning DeustoTech a very attractive scenario for researchers in the field.
