The University of Deusto has once again joined the celebration of the Day of Good Treatment and Care, an initiative that is part of the Safe Environment System of the Society of Jesus. Since the first celebration, it has been understood that good treatment begins with the premise of “Caring for ME, Caring for YOU and Caring for US”. In the previous edition, we reflected on the power of communication in the different interactions and wanted to answer the question: “Do your words hurt or caress? This year, we want to go a step further with the invitation to reflect on the way we look at and understand other people under the slogan “Making the invisible visible”.
Through this gaze, we can transform the perception of our surroundings and, with it, the way we relate to each other. For this reason, the University would like to encourage you to dedicate a moment of this day to an exercise of reflection: to evaluate your own gaze. How do we see the people with whom we relate on a daily basis, those with whom we study, work, our friends and family? Do our eyes filter reality with negativity or are we capable of finding the light in those around us?
Good treatment and care require not only a reflective view, but also a commitment to intervene when necessary to ensure an inclusive and safe environment. With this objective in mind, and as part of the Deusto Safe Environment System, strategies are implemented to guarantee spaces free of violence, discrimination and any form of mistreatment. Likewise, through prevention, attention and support protocols, we work to consolidate a university where all people can fully develop in an environment of trust and mutual respect.
A commitment and effort to continue building a university where respect and care are the pillar of our coexistence.
