On November 18 and 19, the University of Deusto participated in the II Forum of the Municipalities for Tolerance program, an initiative of the Pluralism and Coexistence Foundation which, in collaboration with the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces and with the support of the Institute of Human Rights, aims to help local governments to manage religious diversity in a democratic, inclusive and pluralistic manner. The meeting was held at the headquarters of the Federation.
Within the framework of the Program and its Charter for the Municipal Management of Religious Diversity, the option for the municipalities adhering to it to carry out an external evaluation is contemplated. The methodological proposal, framed in the Charter, to carry out these external evaluations has been elaborated by the Institute of Human Rights of Deusto. The evaluations include a two-year work proposal with actions aimed at improving municipal management of religious diversity.
During the last year, a work team made up of Eduardo J. Ruiz Vieytez, José Ramón Intxaurbe, Trinidad L. Vicente and Gorka Urrutia Asua have carried out evaluation processes for the municipalities of Sabadell, Vitoria-Gasteiz and Bilbao, the first municipalities to commit to this process. On November 19, Gorka Urrutia presented the evaluation tool, as well as the process carried out in these three municipalities. Representatives from Sabadell, Vitoria-Gasteiz and Bilbao shared the results of the process, as well as the work plan for the next two years.
