Bilbao Campus San Sebastian Campus

The University of Deusto will start the new 2023-24 academic year on Monday, 4 September with the welcome sessions for first-year students and international students. A total of 697 exchange students from more than 50 countries will study in Bilbao and San Sebastian during the first semester of the academic year. More than 2,600 undergraduate students will begin their degree courses this year at the two university campuses and the Vitoria University site. Classes for all courses will begin on 6 September and the official opening ceremony, presided over by the President of the Basque Government, Iñigo Urkullu, will be held on 20 September.

Welcome to international students in Bilbao

The Bilbao campus will be holding an institutional welcome ceremony for its international students on 4 September: 462 undergraduate and postgraduate students, in addition to a further 85 who will enjoy their international experience at Deusto through the International Virtual Campus, a digital space designed to offer accessible and inclusive internationalisation opportunities to students from universities all over the world.

Young students come from the following countries: Germany, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, South Korea, Croatia, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, United States, Estonia, Finland, France, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Morocco, Mexico, Norway, Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, United States, Uruguay.

This welcome day, which will be held at the Main Hall at 11:30 a.m., will be attended by the Vice-Rector for University Community and Agenda 2030, Aitziber Irigoras, the Vice-Rector for International Relations, Javier Arellano, the Mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto, and the Deputy for Basque, Culture and Sport of the Biscay Regional Council, Leixuri Arrizabalaga, as well as the consuls general and honorary consuls based in Bilbao.

The meeting will end with a reception and students will have the opportunity to get to know the city of Bilbao hand in hand with the Deusto students participating in the Buddy Programme, one of the most outstanding programmes where international students are paired with local students to promote their integration and welcome. This institutional event will end with sessions with tutors to provide academic guidance and with the International Relations Office and Deusto Campus, to discuss extra-curricular activities.

International students at the San Sebastian campus

The San Sebastian campus, in turn, will welcome its 150 students and exchange students from 24 countries on TUESDAY, 5 September. Javier Arellano, Vice-Rector for Institutional Relations, and Xabier Riezu, Vice-Rector of the San Sebastian campus of the University of Deusto, will take part in the institutional welcome ceremony, which will be held at 14:45.

On the same day, at 16:30, the Mayor of San Sebastian, Eneko Goia, will receive international students at the City Hall’s Assembly Hall. Afterwards, at 17:30, they will attend the presentation of Donostia Kultura at the Victoria Eugenia Theatre by its director, Imanol Galdós.

New features this academic year

Some of the main features of the new academic year include the start of the new online Bachelor's Degree in Law, the double degree in Business Administration and Management + International Relations and the Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Management, 100% in English. Likewise, the double degree in International Relations + Law will also be taught on the San Sebastian campus as well as in Bilbao.
