30 start-ups will take part of the European Data Incubator (EDI), a EU funded project coordinated by the University of Deusto, offering an incubation program for start-ups and SMEs working on data technologies.

The EDI Project
With a budget of 7.7 million euros, the objective of EDI is to meet the growing need of having entrepreneurs helping solving the challenges of large data providers and extract value from this data. In this sense, EDI offers the most innovative start-ups the opportunity to tackle real world challenges set by corporations across Europe, such as improving road safety in Barcelona or predicting fraudulent transactions in supermarkets. During the 3 years of the project, participants are offered up to € 100,000 equity-free funding, coaching, training, free access to a "Cloud" environment, as well as connections with some of the main European organisations.

EDI offers a three-phase incubation programme: Explore, Experiment, Evolve. Each phase corresponds to a open call happening each year.

The Explore phase
After an evaluation process carried out by international independent evaluators, 30 start-ups have been selected out of more than 120 candidates from 28 different countries to start the first phase of the EDI incubation program (Explore). Out of these 30 start-ups, 13 are Spanish and 4 are from the Basque Country:Zylk, Bigda Solutions, LIS-Solutions, and Solvent.

On 17 and 18 October, the 30 selected start-ups will travel to Berlin to participate in a datathon where they will present the current status of their projects. They will receive € 5,000 and will meet in person the data providers. At this event, the jury will decide which 16 start-ups will go to the next phase "Experiment".
