María Jesús Elejabarrieta Olabarri received her PhD in Physics from the UPV-EHU University. She has developed interdisciplinary, experimental and numerical training in the fields of mechanical vibrations and passive and active shock-absorbing materials. Since 1997 she has been working as a lecturer and researcher, teaching Physics, Applied Mechanics and Machines and Mechanisms, among other subjects. Her research activity focuses on the attenuation of vibrations using viscoelastic and magnatorheological materials. She has directed six doctoral theses, regarding the following areas: viscoelastic damping in free layer; conformed viscoelastic sandwiches; viscoelastic magnetorheological sandwiches; magnetorheological dampers (with magnetorheological fluids) and magnetorheological elastomers. These theses have been supported by projects subsidized both by public administrations (Education and Industry of the Basque Government Department, and the Ministry of Science and Technology) as well as by companies (Fagor, S. Coop.; Irizar, S. Coop; etc). She is the author of 40 articles in JCR indexed journals, and has presented 50 papers at National and International Conferences
