I teach subjects such as Thinking and Language, Psychometrics and Learning Difficulties, among others, in the Education and Psychology degrees. My research, for the most part, has gone hand in hand with teaching, particularly in the subject of learning difficulties. For that reason I have devoted efforts to understand aspects such as how much and how children learn to read and what errors beginners of languages such as Spanish and Basque make, how to measure reading and writing performance to serve a better teaching of reading and writing, or how to improve decoding, fluency, spelling and comprehension of children with poor reading skills. More recently I am focused on examining the validity of research on the so-called learning to read disorder. I hope to provide an explanation of this disorder that will help schools provide more effective instruction that reduces educational inequity.
