Matthias Scantamburlo is Assistant Professor in Political Science at the University of Deusto (Bilbao). Previously he held teaching and research positions at the University Carlos III of Madrid, Aston University (Birmingham), the University of Innsbruck and the University of Deusto. He completed his PhD in Political Science at the University of Innsbruck in 2016. Funded by a Marietta Blau Fellowship from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research, between 2014 and 2015 he visited the University of Deusto as a PhD student. Additionally, he holds an MPhil in Political Science (2010) and an MPhil in History (2014) both from the University of Innsbruck. Matthias’s research focuses in the areas of territorial politics, party politics, transformations of democratic representation, and the crisis of social democracy. Since 2014 he is team member of the Regional Manifestos Project, a project that collects and analyses electoral manifestos in subnational elections. His research has been published in a wide range of international journals, including West European Politics, Party Politics, Regional & Federal Studies, Representation, German Politics and Society, and Political Research Exchange. He is part of the editorial team of Nazioni e Regioni, the Italian journal for the study of nationalism and regionalism.
