Holds a PhD from the Department of Applied Economics at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), a BSc in Nautical Science from the School of Navigation and Naval Machinery (UPV/EHU), an MA in Maritime Economics from the University of Wales, and an MA in Foreign Trade from the UPV/EHU. He worked as navigation officer for the merchant navy for a period of time until he joined the Maritime Agent and Broker Sector, where he remained for 15 years. For the past 10 years he has been working as Lecturer in Maritime Economics and International Transportation at the School of Navigation and Naval Machinery of the UPV/EHU. .
