xabier.garay@deusto.esXabier has more than 25 years of professional experience in humanitarian and development settings holding senior leadership positions such as Country Director with Action against Hunger and Regional Emergency Manager with Christian Aid for Latin America. Currently, he coordinates and teaches humanitarian management courses at various universities such as University of Deusto (Master NOHA in Humanitarian Action), Spanish Long-Distance University (Master Senior Management for Non-Profit Organization) and Ruhr University in Germany. He designs and delivers tailor-made courses and simulations on humanitarian topics such as leadership, security, logistics and humanitarian negotiation for international organizations such as ACF, OXFAM and CRS. He has developed a mentorship programe that offers support, coaching and guidance to senior humanitarian leaders and recent graduates. He has a vast and wide field experience with international organizations such as Action Against Hunger, Spanish Red Cross, Doctors of the World Spain, Christian Aid and government agencies such as AECID. Currently he coordinates and teach the Management Module of the NOHA Master in Deusto Bilbao and the International aid Management Module at the Spanish Long-Distance University, as he continuously trains and mentor humanitarian workers of International and National Aid Bodies deployed in humanitarian scenarios. He specializes in the design and coordination of humanitarian simulations. He has worked in conflict, development and emergency settings, in the Caucasus, Balkans, Horn of Africa, Europe, Middle East, South East Asia and Latin America Xabier is fluent in English, Spanish, French, Italian and Basque.
