Brief description of research aims
Research team Intervention: Quality of Life and Social Inclusion (Deusto Intervention) has been recognised by the Basque Government as an A - excellent team for the three-year period 2016-2021 (IT-1220-19).
Its research is oriented towards social impact, becoming a driver of transformation through the generation of scientific knowledge aimed at processes of intervention, support and empowerment of people to improve the quality of life and the participation of all of them in the construction of active citizenship. Since its creation in 2010, the team has focused on situations of vulnerability due to a variety of factors (gender, age, origin, disability, poverty, health, school failure...) based on the principles of Applied Research, Research-Action and Participation.
Research:
- Analysis of the main risk and protection factors linked to people's situations of vulnerability
- Design and development of evaluation tools and materials for socio-educational intervention in quality of life
- Qualitative studies to understand the experiences, expectations and challenges of people in different situations of vulnerability.
Intervention:
- Development and implementation of socio-educational intervention programmes: preventive and community intervention
- Good practices in the promotion of well-being and inclusion: community intervention, networking, citizen participation, occupational and labour market integration or access to social rights
- Evaluation of intervention programmes
Transfer:
- Support and training of various social actors: public administrations, professionals and citizens
- Publication of intervention materials and best practice guides

- Adolescence and youth, addictions and risk behaviours
- People with disabilities and special educational needs
- Social inclusion of people in situations of vulnerability
Gender and ethical perspectives are present across the various research areas.
These research areas are aligned with the RIS3 Regional Specialisation Strategy in Territories of Opportunity, Urban Habitat. Understanding accessibility not only physically but also socially: the sense of belonging, preventive intervention in people's immediate context, the creation of participative and inclusive spaces, as key elements for the construction of a more cohesive society. With regard to socio-economic objectives, it is related to the development of social protection systems to ensure access to the range of services (education, health, employment, etc.) with an emphasis on social services aimed at people's autonomy and social integration.
