The University of Deusto and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, through its initiative “Bizkaia with the talent”, want to attract to the territory Latin American talent with STEM profiles that can collaborate in the activation of innovation in leading companies in the area. To this end, they have created, in cooperation with the Jesuit University Network AUSJAL of Latin America, the Innovation and Global Entrepreneurship Network-RIEG Deusto-Bizkaia.
With the aim of presenting this Network and publicizing the entire innovative ecosystem of Bizkaia, the University will hold the I International Meeting of the RIEG Deusto-Bizkaia from November 18 to 22, which will bring together all the agents involved in the project. More than 100 people between AUSJAL universities, participants, institutions, companies and agents of the innovative and entrepreneurial ecosystem of Bizkaia.
The meeting opened on November 18 with the participation of the rector of Deusto, Juan José Etxeberria, for whom collaboration between universities is key to the development of global talent and the promotion of innovation. In his words, “the University of Deusto has made a firm commitment to international cooperation, particularly with the universities of the AUSJAL network. The Jesuit networks have several elements in common: a diversity that respects the particularities of each local context, while taking advantage of the benefits of global collaboration, and an openness to innovation that encourages experimentation, learning and change. These networks create opportunities for innovation and transformation, and the RIEG - Deusto-Bizkaia Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Network - is an excellent example of this approach,” he said.
As he explained, this experience is proving to be extremely enriching for all parties involved. For the participants, because it opens a door to professional and personal development by allowing them to work in leading companies in Bizkaia. For the companies of Bizkaia, on the other hand, this Network is the gateway to the highly qualified talent they need to carry out their most innovative projects. And for Latin American universities, this project allows them to offer their graduates an opportunity to develop in an international context, thus improving their employability and professional development. Finally, for Bizkaia as a Territory, this network provides - as the rector stated - the international talent so much in demand today by companies and institutions.
“It is precisely in this line of networking, cross-sector collaboration and commitment to the common good where we find the strategic focus of the University of Deusto for the coming years.” Thus, he indicated that our university model emphasizes the ability of people to work together, and the multiplier effect of cooperation between people, institutions, entities and groups. Because the challenges of today's world demand networking and cross-sector collaboration, not just as a mere instrument, but as an individual and collective attitude. “I am convinced that, working in cooperation, we will be able to continue building a more innovative, inclusive and prosperous future for society,” he concluded. Full speech.
After the words of Rector Juan José Etxeberria, Garbiñe Henry, Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship of the University, was in charge of unpacking the objectives of the Network to follow with a colloquium with Node Universities of the AUSJAL Network. This was followed by a new round table with representatives of the companies and participants, moderated by María Lambarri, Director of the Unit of Relations with Social and Economic Agents of Deusto. The event was closed by Ainara Basurko, Regional Deputy for Economic Promotion of Bizkaia.
