On 21 October in Deusto, more than 100 students from Bizkaia in the 4th year of ESO learnt about job opportunities related to scientific and technological fields, through conversations with professionals from the Basque industrial, scientific and technological sector. These orientation days are held in various parts of the Basque Country thanks to STEAM Sare, the network of educational centres and socio-economic agents that work together to increase the interest of Basque youth in mathematics, science and technology, and to improve their learning.

The dynamic consists of quick fifteen-minute talks between a group of five students and a STEM professional, in which interests, vocations and professional and personal motivations are addressed. Throughout the session, the professionals rotate so that each group can meet and talk to four or five different STEM experts. The aim is to offer advice and inspiration for their future training and career decisions.
These workshops are held at the headquarters of the co-organising educational agents, both universities and vocational training centres. The one held in Deusto is one of the various meetings held in the Basque Country between 16 and 30 October, with the participation of 1,300 students from 32 educational centres and the collaboration of 225 STEM professionals.

As part of the Basque Government's STEAM Euskadi Strategy, these career guidance days are promoted by the Department of Science, Universities and Innovation, and the Department of Education, in collaboration with the Basque Innovation Agency, Innobasque, and co-organised with the University of Deusto, Mondragon Unibertsitatea, UPV/EHU, Hetel, Ikaslan and AICE-IZEA. The objectives of this initiative are to help students in the 4th year of ESO in their educational and professional choice, showing the diversity of STEM professions through direct contact with professionals, as well as to inspire vocations and professional aspirations in STEM fields, especially among girls.
